The Here and Now

People have spent years in caves attempting to touch the divine and reach the ultimate level of enlightenment. Years of meditation, hours upon hours of focusing their intentions on that longed for state of nirvana, that moment of sheer silent bliss where there is just you and the Universe.

That is wonderful if you have the time and nothing else to do but sit in the lotus position with no distracts but because most of us still live in the physical world and have things that require our attention then that is just not a feasible option. However, you can still learn to exist in that space that belongs to the Universe.

Most of the reason that your minds jump back and forth, forwards and backwards and sometimes sideways is because you are living in the future or the past. Your undisciplined mind will take you back and forth through time and space day in and day out for as long as you allow it. How much time do you spend thinking about what to have for dinner tonight, what you will do this weekend or long for that vacation you will have in 6 months? What about that opportunity that you missed in High School, what that person said to upset you last week or that thing that you did to someone 10 years ago that you still feel guilty or embarrassed for that pokes you out of the blue every now and again.

Each of these thoughts are future and past and neither one of them align you with the now of the Universe upon which you will find the peace that you so long. There are no worries, concerns, fears, and doubts when you are right here and now. Think about it, the only time worry, fear, anger, pain, etc., happens is when you are thinking about some scenario that you are creating about the future and the only time you feel sorrow, regret, guilt, etc., is when you look at the past.

Being in the here and now is the peace. The future hasn't been created yet and the past no longer exists. Right here is where you will find enlightenment, right here is where you will find your silent inner peace. When your mind is running rampant that is the time to take a moment, do a breathing exercise to become calm, then remind yourself that you are in the here and now. I can see my hand it is right here in front of me, my feet they are touching the floor I am in the here and now this will help you to ground to this moment. This can be done anywhere and at any time and with practice, persistence and consistence you can become the master of your own mind and reach the peace that does exist
