Last week I touched on the important of trees but I really feel that there is so much more to tell. Trees are responsible for air, rain and food, yes, but they also cool the Earth. They control the climate by absorbing and filtering the rays of the sun away from us and lowering ground temperatures. Think of the Earth as a giant terrarium and every natural component is vital to the health and well-being of everything inside the terrarium. Trees are a vital natural control against climate change.
Trees work diligently above ground as well as below ground as their roots move deep into the Earth to pull the water up to create rain as we discussed last week but also to hold the soil together to prevent soil erosion. Now for a lot of people they have no clue why this would even be in the realm of importance but here are the facts. Soil erosion is when the top layer of Earth is washed away, the top layer of soil is how we grow our food. That's right, no top soil, no medium to grow crops.
So lets break this down, no trees mean nothing to keep the soil in place to grow the food. The top soil flows away leaving unhealthy soil with poor quality that is incompatible with growing healthy and abundant crops. The soil that is washed away has to end up somewhere and that somewhere is usually in streams, ditches and in our drinking water which contaminates it with all of the fertilizers and pesticides that it has accumulated on the way. It impacts the people, wildlife and fish that rely on this water for life.
Like air, water and food is necessary for life on this planet. Your body requires healthy uncontaminated food to be at it's peak of health. It requires healthy uncontaminated water to continue to exist. It requires a healthy ecosystem of trees and nature in order to provide your life requirements. It is important for all people to understand how things work and what is required to bring you the basic necessities for your life, for your family, your grandchildren, the future, it is required to know! Only with this knowledge can you be an active participant in your very existence on this planet.
